Snow White Looks upon Death

Snow White Looks upon Death: .
I apologize for the long wait since the last post (long by Long-Forgotten standards, anyway). This isn't "the next post" so much as a snack to tide us over until dinner. It's a visual coincidence, an oddity, something that stimulates imagination, if not investigation.

I'm going to be discussing Claude Coats in the next post, and in my Coats file is this curiosity. We start with a magnificent and well-known concept sketch for the ballroom that Coats apparently executed when the attraction was still going to be a walk-thru.

Not to tip my hand too much, but we'll be looking more closely at this sketch in the upcoming post. For now,
I would direct your attention to the ghostly faces and death's heads floating about in the darkness on the right.

Now let's move a world away. Let's visit one of Disneyland's finest "quiet
spots," the Snow White Grotto adjacent to the Sleeping Beauty castle. Lovely.

Here's a very different view, taken (I believe) by Brett Garrett of Visions Fantastic fame.

Very nice. Now look at Snow White's reflection in the dark waters below her.

You can probably see already where I'm going with this. Let's add a few
of Claude's phantom faces to the reflections on the water's surface...

If this were part of a film, we'd call it foreshadowing, seeing as how Snow
White is headed for a long sleep in a glass coffin. Glass . . . so like water.

This accidental poignancy reminds me of a well-known visual pun with a sombre
purpose, "All is Vanity." As you know, they attempted to replicate this artwork (of
which there are many versions) in the bride's boudoir at Phantom Manor in Paris.

But I prefer the accidental one. It really isn't that obscure, you know.
You needn't fish around for peculiar photos of the Snow White grotto,
nor comb through Haunted Mansion concept art. Invert any number of
photos of Snow White, and you'll see the death's head, trailing a veil.

I'm not in a position to run over to Disneyland and check, but I would suppose her reflection
in the moat presents the image any time the lighting is right and you care to look for it.

A Unique Point of View: Mark Twain Riverboat Wheelhouse at Disneyland Resort

A Unique Point of View: Mark Twain Riverboat Wheelhouse at Disneyland Resort:

Pilots of the Mark Twain Riverboat agree they have one of the best views of Disneyland park. I’ve traveled on the original attraction countless times, but this was my first visit to the wheelhouse. Also known as the pilothouse, the pane windows offer a 360-degree view of the Rivers of America. I was especially impressed to see the pristine captain’s quarters on the way up and loved the photo of Walt hanging on the wall.

If you have the opportunity to visit the wheelhouse for this bird’s eye view, be sure to sign the guest book!

Video Gallery: New BMW 3 Series

Video Gallery: New BMW 3 Series:

Earlier this month, BMW unveiled the sixth generation 3 Series Sedan. Similar to the new F20 1 Series and for the first time, the new 3 Series will be offered with a standard package and M Sport package, as well as three new lines: Sport, Luxury and Modern. These will provide an extensive customization program for customer by offering more upfront options.

Customers can therefore adapt the appearance of their car to their personal lifestyle and preferences – in their own way and with eye-catching results. For the company, these new lines will result in additional savings.

The sixth generation of the 3 Series has grown moderately in size compared to its predecessor, with its wide track (front + 37 mm/1.46 in., rear + 47 mm/1.85 in.) particularly prominent, and the car’s length (+ 93 mm/3.66 in.) and wheelbase (+ 50 mm/1.96 in.) also accentuates its sporting allure. Interior and trunk space have therefore increased.

The styling of the 2012 BMW 3 Series is an evolution of the previous model. The styling follows the design language seen in the new 5 Series, with concave and convex shapes providing a sporty stance and image.

BMW has also redesigned the interior of the new 3 Series. The future model combines luxury with sportiness and different combinations of interior trim can be seen across the three lines: Sport, Luxury and Modern. The driver-focused cockpit is even more emphasized in the F30 3 Series being angled towards the driver by seven degrees.

To emphasize and showcase the qualities of the new 3 Series, BMW releases a series of videos that gives us a closer look at the interior and exterior design, along with some rolling footage. Let’s have a look.
