Postagram creates postcards from Instagram photos

Just installed this app and send myself a postcard. Let's hope the quality is fantastic. Not many services can bridge the gap between the digital world and the real world but it's the way it needs to be for us to move forward in my opinion.

We've been fans of Instagram for a while, so we were keen to see what would happen when its developers opened Instagram's API to others. While there have been a few toe-in-the-water experiments, the first really interesting idea we've seen is Postagram. The service allows you to turn any Instagram image into a 300 dpi postcard for just US$0.99, posted to anywhere in the world. It'll be delivered within 2-5 days in the USA and will take a bit longer to get elsewhere. Sounds like a bargain.

Download the app now and give it a try if you already have Instagram installed. Postagram has a special launch offer that gives you your first postcard for free. Perfect for sending real postcards to your parents and anyone who isn't quite up there with you on the cutting edge of e-postcard delivery this summer.

Disney unveiled some of the new destinations featured in the revamped Star Tours ride that is set to open this summer at Disneyland.
Crews are now transforming the 1987 ride into a 3D journey through space based on the “Star Wars” movies — the original trilogy and the three prequels. The ride is scheduled to debut June 3.
The new sites, announced on the Disney Parks blog, are:

  • The planet of Naboo.
  • The Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk.
  • The planet Hoth, which is in “The Empire Strikes Back.” See photo, courtesy of Disney.
  • The Death Star above the planet Geonosis.
Previously, Disney revealed that the journey also would go to Tatooine for the Podrace and Coruscant.
In all, the ride will offer 54 different experiences, depending on the journey and the scenes taken. See a previous story about Star Tours journeys. Disneyland closed Star Tours in July to begin construction.

Disney is revealing more details about new attractions at Disney California Adventure as it nears the completion of a five-year, $1 billion makeover.
Last week, Disney creators outlined tidbits about upcoming attractions during tours and a presentation that were part of a State of the Resort event at the Disneyland Resort. See a previous story about the State of the Resort event at the Disneyland Resort.
About 400 invited guests attended the Friday event. Disney took down some construction walls to show the sites of upcoming attractions during tours before the park opened. Click on photos above to see larger images.
Crews are scheduled to complete the California Adventure project next year. Follow California Adventure expansion news.
Here are some highlights of the under-construction features.
Buena Vista Street, the under-construction entrance corridor of Disney California Adventure opening in 2012.

  • New shops and venues will line the main corridor past the turnstiles based on the California that Walt Disney saw when he started here in the 1920s and 1930s.
  • Oswald’s Filling Station will be one of the stores along Buena Vista Street. Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit, was a character created by Walt Disney in 1927. He was a precursor to Mickey Mouse.
  • Los Feliz Five and Dime is another store. Walt Disney lived in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles when he first moved to California.
  • Construction of the framework of the Carthay Circle Theater, a key building in the entrance, recently began at the park. Read more about Carthay Circle Theater in Disney California Adventure.
Cars Land, an area based on the “Cars” movie opening in 2012.
  • The Radiator Springs Racers ride will make up about six of the 12 acres of Cars Land.
  • The ride will last about 5 1/2 minutes, going through scenes based on movie themes, including Taillight Caverns. The last third of the ride is a side-by-side race.
  • A Curio Shop is inspired by the trading posts that creators saw during a Route 66 road trip to get inspiration for Cars Land.

The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, a dark ride set to open June 3:
  • The ride will last about 5 1/2 minutes.
  • Scenes will include 183 characters, including 127 in the “Under the Sea” scene alone.
  • On the recently unveiled facade, Ariel’s six sisters are carved on the arch entrance.
  • The Triton statue, which sits atop the building, was taken from a fountain in Triton’s Garden, which closed in 2008, according to the Yesterland blog. The garden was replaced by Pixie Hollow.

What They Like: 2007 - 2009

Becoming a parent in 2005 was a life changing event for me.  Suddenly I cared.  Cared for my son's future.  Cared for what he was and was not exposed to while he grew up.  It was also a time when I personally felt it was time to grow up a little.  This was a change that several other of my peers at Ziff Davis Media felt as well.

In 2007 I followed a few of them on a new and exciting venture to create What They Like Inc. where we were to produce several websites for the parent in mind.  Our first site was WhatTheyPlay.com, The Family Guide to Video Games.  What's really in these games? Why does it have a Mature rating. What specific content is in there for it to deserve that rating.  It was a great idea and we definitely filled a void in the media that needed this kind of attention.

We were a small exciting start up and I was brought on to be their Director of Production but really what that meant was I did everything from decision making through front end development. Everything from coding the templates, daily reviews, feature content and sales sponsorships.
